Help Wanted [Apr. 1st, 2009|03:09 am]
Collectors of Books/Works by Brian and Wendy Froud

lost_ligeia
As you've undoubtedly noticed, things have been a bit quiet here. That's partly because there's not much going on in the World of Froud, but more often because I'm too busy with my coursework to update on a regular basis.

Thus, I am looking for some one to help me regulate the community. I'll still be here and post, but I need a second mod to help me with updates and general housekeeping things.

Anyone interested?

Item for Sale [Feb. 16th, 2009|04:31 pm]

Like everyone else, I imagine, I'm trying to make some extra money. Thus, I'm selling my second copy of Once Upon a Time.

Photobucket

This is a collection of fantasy art published in the '70s and edited by David Larkin, who also edited Faeries and The Land of Froud. It is now out of print and very scarce. It features a Froud cover and about a dozen early Froud paintings that I have NEVER seen published ANYWHERE else, in nearly 10 years of collecting. The illustrations are similar to those from The Land of Froud, and were originally created for a short story that Brian began but never finished.

The book also contains art by Chris McEwan, Wayne Anderson, Tony Meeuwissen, Frank Bellamy, Nicola Bayley, Peter Le Vasseur, Pauline Ellison, Alan Lee, Ian Miller, Reg Cartwright, James Marsh, Peter Barrett, Owen Wood, and Ken Laidlaw.

This is a paperback in excellent condition- tightly bound, no stains, no folds, no tears.

I'm asking $40 for it, but I'm willing to haggle. If you're interested please reply here or send me a PM.

Small Updates [Feb. 16th, 2009|04:07 pm]

Once again, there hasn't been much significant Froud news to report, but here are a few interesting updates:

~ Two new books have been added to our Master List: Art Figuratif et Poupees Contemporaines de Collection by Aude Berger, which features work by Wendy, and Knife by R.J. Anderson, for which Brian provided cover art.

~ Several new images have been added to our Cover Art Gallery, including the above two. Many thanks to Kristen (aka "Halo") for her continued help.

~ Wendy Froud's second instructional DVD is now available from the World of Froud website!

I've cleaned up the community a little bit and changed my email address.

In the coming weeks I hope to create a more detailed book list for you, and to create a new list of magazines and periodicals.

As always, if you have any particular questions or requests, please let me know.

Jim Henson and Brian Froud [Aug. 6th, 2008|07:58 pm]

I went to the Smithsonian in D.C. to see the Jim Henson Muppet exhibit, and was pleasantly surprised to see that there was a whole section dedicated to the Dark Crystal!  I was a little upset that they weren't allowing photography, and my phone died so I couldn't sneak pictures that way.  They had the dress Kiira wore, bowls and decanters used by the Skesis, outfits and accessories used by the pod people and a miniature of the UrRu.  There were also black and white posters of Brian, Jim, and Wendy at work.  It was quite amazing, so if you can make it, I would highly recommend it : ).

The deluxe hardcover limited edition is enclosed in a clothbound portfolio box. This must have for faerie and fantasy fans of all ages includes two additional booklets and a DVD featuring an artist interview as well as footage by Froud of his gallery. In addition it includes an original art print signed by the author, an original poster by Brian Froud with poetry by bestselling author Neil Gaiman, and a model of the Green Man inspired by First Forest Drawings. This special edition with over 150 full-color illustrations is limited to 1,500 signed and numbered copies.

At $300, this gorgeous new limited edition is too pricey for me to buy right now. :( But if you've got the cash, you can get it now from Amazon.com

Your mod lives! [Jun. 18th, 2008|07:58 pm]

Sorry for the hiatus, everyone. I had a particularly stressful Spring term at university- I was very sick for most of it actually. But I'm happy to report than I'm alive and well now. :)

There's been very little Froud news worth passing on, but here are some rare and unusual Ebay finds I think you'd like to see.

A Fall of Stardust
Photobucket

This is a portfolio of 29 small prints, each done by a different fantasy artist, all inspired by Neil Gaiman and Charles Vess's Stardust. This was a limited edition item sold a few years ago to raise money for Vess's wife when she was ill. THIS print by Brian Froud is included:

The starting bid is just $1.99 and there are 6 days left in the auction. I'd keep an eye on it if I were you. This portfolio is rare and sought-after, and tends to sell for a lot of money, so don't bid early! You'll just drive up the price.

Asia 2001- Dreamland LP

I didn't even know this existed- it's a trance record by an artist called Asia 2001 featuring the same Froud artwork from The Cosmic Trilogy:

That's it for now. As always, if you have any questions or comments, feel free to get in touch with me.
